  • A fix for American problems: a return to journalistic honesty

The last two Republican debates have revealed only one thing about the mainstream American media: the major outlets are the furthest things from non-biased. It was particularly clear in the MSNBC debate, as the far left moderators were more interested in creating conflict between the two leading candidates (Govs Romney and Perry) than actually giving viewers more information on the views and characters of all the candidates on the stage. In short, it was more like a political wrestling show rather than an actually informative program where voters could have an opportunity to get closer to choosing whom they’ll vote for in the primaries. This is the biggest problem with American politics; because of the obvious liberal bias in the media there is chance of the truth getting out. Far left zealots like Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow and everyone at MSNBC have no interest in the truth and informing the American people of the information. Instead, they want to protect the failed economic policies of the Obama administration. They assail anyone who harshly critiques the president as racist or anti-progress or obstructionist, and seem stupidly blind to the fact that policies such as the stimulus plan have failed. The only way America is going to improve, in both the economic and social sense, is if the news media gets back to just giving information. Not giving an opinion on events, just giving information on what has happened in politics. So hear is my remedy for the terrible situation in America at the moment: Fire all the prime time hosts at MSNBC and CNN, and make the new people watch “good night, and good luck”. It’s time to return to journalistic values and honesty.

  • Stop being so judgemental, let people live

How has society fallen so far from what it is supposed to be? How have we failed in such an abject manner? What I mean by this is that we seem to encourage people to be judgmental now. It seems to be OK to automatically put people in sections or categories as soon as you meet them: “He’s thick”, “he’s shy”, “he’s this” and so on. Why do we always have to define people and make them conform to what society says they must be, in order to be happy? Everyone is different in character, and everyone has different difficulties in life, which may make them not exactly like you. Stop judging those who are different and get to know them. We need to learn that this world is not a one size fits all place. Different people have different problems that they are trying to overcome, and it’s only when we come together and start trying to help each other with a hug and a smile, that we’ll really start to see a better world. So forget all your pet causes, all your donating 2 pounds a month to this or that charity. Give someone a hug or a pat on the back, and listen to his or her problems and give advice. Don’t drag people down with hurtful comments, pick them up with friendship and try to understand them. Being misunderstood is probably the biggest problem in the world at the moment.

  • A christmas note

    Hello,

Around Christmas time every year, we tend to get caught up in the lights and materialism of the event, and tend to think of ourselves more than others. We forget what the real meaning of Christmas is. We celebrate Christmas to celebrate the birth of our savior Jesus Christ, who bestowed so many blessings upon us. The most Important of these blessings are family and concept of love. Our purpose on earth is to make it a better place for everyone else, and there is no better way to start doing that by telling the people who matter around you how much they mean to you and how their love or friendship has enriched your life. We tend to take people for granted, and never really show our emotions as much as we should. Material objects or impulsive actions will never make you happy, only true love and friendship will. So my Christmas message this year is quite simply this: Life isn’t about getting what you want all the time, it’s about loving what you have.

Have a merry Christmas and God Bless,

    Max Bryson

  • Mid-Term elections 2010: Vote for freedom, not big government

This election should not be about partisanship. It should be about freedom and the belief that we the people know better how to run our own lives, not Washington bureaucrats. Over the past 4 years of a democratic controlled congress, we have seen the deficit spiral out of control. We have seen the government take control of 1/6th of the economy with their Healthcare reform bill that mandates you to have government approved insurance policies – whether you want it, need it, or not. We have seen a stimulus bill that was supposed to stop unemployment from going above 8%. It now stands at 9.6%. This is not the America that the founding fathers intended to see. After all, it is not an American value for a political party to put off a vote on the tax code till after the mid-term elections – causing incredible uncertainty for American businesses and American families.

Some say that it is too soon to ‘throw out’ the democrats, that it’s still “all the fault of President Bush”. While one must agree that former President Bush must take some of the blame for the economic climate, it is naïve to suggest that the Democrats haven’t played a large part in the downturn as well. It is true that he lead the Republican Party down the wrong path of high government spending. However, as aforementioned, the Democratic Party has had the majority in both houses for the past 4 years and have an abundant amount of time to pass legislation they want. And what have we got since the democrats got power? Higher unemployment, bigger government and higher taxes if the Bush tax cuts aren’t renewed. In the end, what I’m trying to say here is that the honeymoon period for the democrats is over. It’s time for them to start taking responsibility for their actions and realise that big government policies don’t work and are not something that the vast majority of Americans support.

It is true that Republicans quite simply blew it when they last had a majority in congress, with big spending legislation such as No Child Left Behind and other such bills. But a new, strong sense of true conservatism has emerged. Republicans have realised that they won’t get any votes by embracing the failed big spending economic policies of the democrats and that only true small government conservatism of low taxes, low spending and a strong national defence will get them the vote and support of the American people. It is for this reason that I urge everyone who reads this and can vote, to vote Republican in tomorrow. Freedom is what America needs to get itself back on track, not more government and more bureaucracy
